Koss Olinger January 2015 Semiannual Meeting

Twice a year we devote a full day to our Koss Olinger Semiannual Meeting. The reason for these meetings are two fold: Fellowship for the partners and staff of Koss Olinger and an opportunity to think strategically about improving Koss Olinger. Our first semiannual meeting of 2015 was held at the end of January.

In Koss Olinger’s pursuit to continuously identify growth and improvement opportunities, we incorporate onsite visits to other companies into our semiannual meetings. We visit local organizations who are at the top of their respective industries in order to learn about what makes them great. Previous host companies include Florida Food Service, Holsteins Dairy Farm and, most recently, Goodwin Heart Pine Flooring Company in Micanopy. Through the visits, we have an opportunity to see how these companies do what they do, how they rose to the top of their industry and learn about elements of their business that we can incorporate into Koss Olinger.

During our visit to the Goodwin Heart Pine Flooring Company we learned that the company was founded in 1976 by George and Carol Goodwin. The Goodwin’s passion for carpentry combined with the beauty of heart pine provided fertile ground for a successful business.

Today the entire Goodwin team is committed to beautiful craftsmanship as well as conservation. They work closely with government officials to ensure the river environment from which the logs are harvested is protected and, even today, follow the strictest 1904 standards from the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau. We were able to observe first hand the pride and care the Goodwin team takes with their products and clients. Their product is a culmination of decades of expertise, sincere care for the environment, sterling client service and endless commitment to the art of carpentry. The Goodwin company is at the top of their industry in every way.

One central concept we embrace at Koss Olinger is the idea of “10x”. This concept is simply a way of constantly thinking of ways to make the company not just twice as productive or twice as effective, but rather ten times better than our current methods. The 10x concept has been the catalyst for massive improvements ranging from significantly reduced process time to significantly optimized reporting and service methodologies, all focused on making the Koss Olinger experience better. Our team was able to observe the 10x quality standards, craftsmanship and client service the Goodwin team exhibited. We are grateful to the Goodwin team for allowing Koss Olinger the opportunity to get a glimpse into their success and we are continually grateful to our staff for their commitment to Koss Olinger’s ongoing 10x initiative and the resulting positive effects.

Thank you to Carol Goodwin and the entire Goodwin team for their hospitality and inspiration to our Koss Olinger team. To learn more about the Goodwin Company, their team and their beautiful products visit their website at www.heartpine.com.
